Ma Ailun was a proud owner of an iPhone 5 until she decided to take a phone call, while the device was charging. She had the unfortunate "luck" to die from a massive electric shock that started from the phone in question. Her brother and her sister are concerned by the fact that an Apple device, so well known on the market, could be the head of this kind of strategy. They was handed over to the Chinese authorities the iPhone 5, and they will decide, together with the Apple company, what was the issue and what can be one so that this kind of tragedy doesn't occur again.
It might be possible that the phone was actually a fake, because, in 2011, there were discovered 22 fake Apple stores in the city from where Ailun were. Nevertheless, her family is keen on the fact that Ailun bought the device from an official store and that she used the original charger. The fact is that this negative publicity is a hard blow on the Apple company, especially in China, because here is the second market, after US.
Even if a phone is cloned, the authorities don't quite understand why Miss Ma died, because a phone charger has an low electrical output, between 3 and 5 volts, and it takes from 36 volts up for a person to feel any shock. Although the chargers seem to be relatively safe, if the charger or the circuit is broken, the shock can go up to 220 volts.
As a conclusion, as Ailun sister is trying to point out, it might be a good idea to avoid talking on the phone while it's charging, because we can never know what is happening with the wires or with the chargers' circuit.
