Tablet Computer Accessories for Business Owners

Posted by iCarryalls on 10/18/2014 to iPad

There’s no doubt that tablet computers and the accessories that accompany them have made the life of a business professional much easier. Whether your business structure is mobile, in the office, or up in the air, having the right accessories to accompany your tablet are essential to greater productivity, hassle-free traveling, and being prepared no matter what the situation. Here are several tablet accessories a business owner should never be without.

Bluetooth keyboards: A docking station is one way to get things done if you’re working at the office, but if you’re on the move and find the docking station cumbersome, it’s time to get a lightweight, thin, and easy-to-carry Bluetooth keyboard. This wireless wonder will allow you to enter copious amounts of data when you’re away from the desktop. For travel purposes, find a keyboard that can be folded in half or even one made of cloth.

USB hubs: Nearly every tablet computer or slate device has USB connection capabilities built-in (or the ability to add them with an adapter), allowing you to connect external devices. On the downside, however, many only have one or two USB ports, which can be a problem if you need to use more than one device at a time or hate having to switch back and forth between devices. A USB hub is an instant problem solver, enabling you to connect several devices at once. They’re also relatively small and lightweight, so carrying one around is easy.

CD/DVD +/- rewriteable drive: It’s always good to have a variety of ways to transfer your media. Whether you’re with a client and need to burn a presentation or you want to back up some important files on the road when you lack access to the cloud, having an external rewriteable CD/DVD drive is a good idea. Many of these drives are very slim for easy portability, have CD write speeds of 24x and DVD write speeds of 8x, are plug and play (no additional software required), and are powered by your tablet, so there’s no need for an external power supply.

Point of sale: Swipe those credit and debit cards without standing behind a register. With a three-track USB wedge reader, you’re always prepared to take plastic, even when you're on the road. Many card readers have mounting plates attached or have the capability to be mounted to either your tablet or a stationary object like the post on a kiosk or the counter of a store.

Pico projector: Small and powerful, a pico projector is a great accessory to have if you need to give an on-the-spot presentation and want to travel light. There’s little setup required. Simply plug it in, pull down the screen or point at a white wall, fire up the presentation software and you’re ready to go.

LCD TV connection: If you’re a minimalist but would like to expand your screen’s real estate or simply want to blow up an impromptu presentation with a single cable, this is the easiest way to do it, though you need to have an LCD TV handy. One thing you’ll want to consider is cable length: A 10-foot cord should cover you in nearly any situation you encounter, but you can get 25- and 100-foot cords for maximum distance.
