What to Look for in an Executive Leather Laptop Case

Posted by icarryalls on 11/8/2014

Buying a fine leather laptop case is an important investment since you will be carrying it with you on trips of business and pleasure, which means that to many people your leather laptop case will in some ways represent you. Moreover, your leather laptop case has the very important job of protecting your laptop and its peripherals during your travels. For these two reasons, it is vitally important that you know what features to look for in a leather laptop case.

The Case Itself

First off, you have got to know if the leather your prospective case is any good. Unfortunately, there is no agreed upon standard as to what the various qualities of leather can be called, so a piece of leather that one craftsman calls “Top A” may be merely a “Grade B” in a different shop.

That said, there is much you can do to evaluate the quality of the leather in question. Look for a smooth grain exterior instead of a rough finish. On the inside of the case, likewise look for silky smooth finishes, which are an indication that the maker paid attention to detail when making the laptop case.

Next, examine the seams, straps, and clasps of the case. Make sure they function smoothly and that they are robust enough to handle decades of use.

Features of Your Laptop Case

Before selecting your specific laptop case, you must know what laptop you will be toting about. There are different fine leather laptop cases for Chromebooks, Macbooks, ThinkPads, and even tablets. You want a case that fits your laptop properly.

Next you need to determine what features you need. Will your case also do duty as a padfolio or a portfolio as well? Do you want to be able to carry an electrical cord and plug in mouse as well? You most likely need to carry the first and only possibly the later. Finally, will your laptop case also serve as a full briefcase or travel bag too? If so, look for those features as you compare bags.
